Microsoft Windows security works with SpeedLine security to protect your business information. Your SpeedLine computers have been set up with three Windows user accounts. Each of these password-protected user accounts allows a different level of access, as described below.

To change Windows account passwords, see Change Passwords Using the Password Maintenance Utility.

Admin Account

This account provides the highest level of access to your system. It is intended for use only by SpeedLine Support, corporate IT, or the store owner. It allows users to make system changes, perform system maintenance, and install software.

Warning HM

Caution Do not use the Admin account unless you need to access system files, install software, or you have been instructed to use it by SpeedLine Support. Misuse of this account can cause damage to your SpeedLine applications and data.

Warning HM

Caution Protect the Admin account password, as this account allows full access to your system. If you suspect the security of the password has been compromised, change it using the Password Maintenance utility.

SLAdmin Account

This account is normally reserved for store owners or managers. It allows access to all areas of the computer, including SpeedLine applications and data. Managers will need to use this account to save changes in Menu Designer.

Warning HM

Caution Be aware that the SLAdmin account allows users to add, change, and delete files.

SpeedUser Account

This account is a limited-functionality account for use by all your staff when performing daily tasks in Terminal or Store Manager. The SpeedUser account cannot access the Windows desktop, but instead uses the SpeedLine desktop. You can limit the program buttons on the SpeedLine desktop to only the applications employees need to do their job. For a list of what SpeedUser account users can and cannot do, see SpeedLine Desktop Security.

Best Practice HM

Hint  For instructions on how to add or remove custom program buttons on the SpeedLine desktop, see Manage the Desktop.

Note HM

Important The use of anti-virus software to protect your computer is highly recommended; however, some anti-virus "security suites" include a software firewall that can interfere with how the SpeedLine computers communicate with each other. Search the Knowledge Base on support.speedlinesolutions.com for "antivirus software" to see a list of recommended programs.
