Menu Designer

Your menu already contains the menu items you sell, but it may not contain modifiers that are not sold on their own, such as  pizza crusts, and it likely does not contain packaging, disposable utensils, or things such as cleaning supplies. Follow the steps below to add these.

To Add Non-Sale Items to the Menu Tree:

1.If you don't already have item categories to group crusts, packaging or other non-sale items for reporting, add them:

a.Click the Menu Root ButtonRootMenu and then click the Item Categories tab.

b.Right-click a blank space on the tab and click Add.

c.Type a name for the new category (for example, "packaging") and click OK.

2.If you do not already have group nodes IconGroupNode for crusts, packaging or other non-sale items in the Menu Tree, right-click on the Modifiers menu group (or the group that contains subgroups for toppings, sauces, and other modifiers) and add them.

Best Practice HM

Hint The group containing modifiers is usually named "Modifiers" but you may want to rename it to something more Inventory-friendly, such as "Stock Items" or "Inventory Items."

3.Add the non-sale modifiers or items to the groups:

a.Right-click on the crust or packaging group, point to Wizards, and click Bulk Item/Modifier Creation Wizard. Click Next.

b.Select the Modifiers or Item option, and then click Next. If you are not sure which to choose, see Understanding Menu Items and Modifiers).

c.Click Add to add a new item entry row.

d.Type the name of the new non-sale item (for example, "large pizza box").

Best Practice HM

Hint You can type or "cut and paste" a list of item names from another document into the wizard by clicking the Quick List Entry button and typing or pasting the list into the text field.

e.Press TAB to auto-fill the Caption field. If you want, type a new caption for the item.

f.Ignore the Used In Inventory and Initial Stocking Unit fields for now - they will be filled in when you select items to track in a later tutorial step.

g.Repeat steps c to f to add additional items to this group. If you need to remove an item, select it and click Remove. When you are finished adding items, click Next.

h.For most non-sale items, the As Item or As Modifier page settings can remain blank. Click Next.

i.Select an item category from the Category list.

j.Click Finish to complete the wizard. The new item nodes IconItemModifierNode will appear in the Menu Tree.

4.Repeat step 3 to add modifiers or items to the other non-sale groups.
