Create an "Open Food" Item

Sometimes you may want to sell an item that is not on your menu, for example, a seasonal item, or a bottle of salad dressing.  An "open food" item can be created on the menu for these occasional sales. This allows your order-taker to enter a custom description and price.

To Create an Open Food Item:

1.In an appropriate area of your menu, add a new item.

2.Click the item's As Item tab, and click the As Item check box.

3.Click the Prompt for Description check box. This allows the order-taker to type in a description of the item sold.

4.Right-click the new item and add a manual price node.

5.If the item is to be taxable, in the Tax Group list, select a tax group.

6.In the Min. Price field, enter the minimum that can be charged for items sold using the open food item (leave set at 0.00 if there is no minimum).

7.In the Max. Price field, enter the most that can be charged for open food items. Enter 0.00 if there is no limit to how much can be charged.

8.Create a panel button for the open food item.

9.Check your menu and save it.

In Terminal, when the open food button is touched, a Selection Notes window will appear. After the order-taker enters a description and touches OK, a keypad will appear to allow them to enter a price.
