Credit card surcharging, while legal in some regions, is heavily restricted by card brands. An important restriction is that debit-capable credit cards, including branded gift cards, cannot be surcharged. This is enforced with fines per violation. SpeedLine cannot detect debit-capable credit cards before they're surcharged. Therefore, we do not recommend setting up credit card surcharging. An option is to create Visa Debit, MasterCard Debit, Visa Gift, and MasterCard Gift tender types and configure them without the surcharge and ask the cardholder if their card is a debit or gift card, and if so, select the appropriate tender type. For online ordering, an option is to always use the non-surcharged tender types noted above.
To set up duplicate tender types, follow the instructions below:
Important For more information about merchant surcharging rules, refer to the Merchant Surcharging Guide in Store Manager's Doc Viewer tab. |
Warning Please refer to your merchant agreement and the laws that apply to your region before proceeding. As the merchant you are responsible for all penalties imposed by card brands. |
