A coupon must meet certain conditions before it can be applied to a menu item (Anything that can be sold to a customer is considered a menu item. Pizza, drinks, and promotional merchandise are examples of menu items.) or ticket. These conditions, like item, quantity, order type, or order source, are listed in the coupon's Requirements tab. When you create a coupon with the Coupon Wizard, the requirements are automatically generated. Requirements can also be added, changed, or removed on the Requirements tab.

A coupon's requirements are evaluated both at the time it is selected or auto-added, and at ticket save (when Complete is touched):

During ordering, if coupon requirements and application rules are met, the coupon's button will be active in Terminal, or it will be automatically added to the ticket (if the Auto Add/Remove check box has been selected on the coupon's General tab). If requirements are not met, the coupon's button will be inactive ("grayed out").

At ticket save, the system evaluates the coupons again to ensure all requirements and rules are still met. If not, a coupon error message appears.

Note HM

Note Terminal examines each requirement independently and if all requirements are met, the coupon is made available.

Note HM

Note "AND" requirements are automatically applied before "OR" requirements. For example, a meal deal coupon that required the following:
(Medium pizza AND 2 appetizers) OR 2 salads OR (appetizer AND salad AND 2 sodas AND dine in) would be available if  the order had only a medium pizza and 2 appetizers, or only 2 salads, or an appetizer and salad with 2 sodas and was dine-in.  Use parentheses and nested parentheses to separate "OR" and "AND" requirement groups. Corrected example:
Medium pizza AND (2 appetizers OR 2 salads OR (appetizer AND salad)) AND 2 sodas AND dine in.
