Control Connect Service Count

Scroll Prev Top Next More

Normally if you are using SpeedLine Connect with a SpeedDine source type, SpeedLine will automatically start the recommended number of instances of Connect Service on a station, based on the number of computer processor cores detected. If you are experiencing slowdowns or crashes on an older computer, or if you want to reduce the auto-assigned number of instances running on a newer computer (more than four instances are not usually required), use the settings on this tab.

SpeedLine Connect is used to communicate with remote ordering systems like online ordering websites or kiosks. See Off-Site Ordering for more information about SpeedLine Connect.

To Control Connect Service Count on a Station

1.On the Settings tab, click the Hardware group, and then click Station Options. icon_stationOptions

2.In the list of stations, select the station to change.

3.Click the SpeedLine Connect tab.

4.Select the Override Automatic Connect Service Instance Count check box.

5.Do one of the following:

If using a SpeedDine source type, in the Count field, type or select the number of instances (copies) of the SpeedLine Connect service to run on this station. Fewer instances will require less computer processing power.

Note HM

Note The Count setting is ignored if you are using a conventional source type, as these source types only "listen" for Connect messages on one port and have just one program (Connect Service or Terminal) running.

-or-

For computers that do not have the processing power to run Connect Service as well as Terminal, in the Count field, type or select "0" and then select the Use Terminal to Process Connect Messages Instead of Connect Service check box.

Note HM

Note Using Terminal to process Connect orders may cause slowdowns when Terminal is being used for other tasks, such as taking in-store orders. If Terminal is not running, online orders will not be accepted.

-or-

To prevent this station from processing Connect orders, in the Count field, type or select "0" and ensure the Use Terminal to Process Connect Messages Instead of Connect Service check box is cleared.

Note HM

Note If the Count field is set to zero on all stations, no orders can be accepted at the store. This does not turn off online ordering. Contact your Connect provider if you want to close your store to online orders from the website.

6.On the Edit menu, click Save Changes.

7.Refresh Terminal to put the new settings into effect.
