Enter Payment Card Encryption Key

Scroll Prev Top Next More

If you are using payment cards to pay your employees, you must enter a pubic key to encrypt the payment card numbers before payment cards can be set up in employee profiles. Payment card numbers can then be sent securely from your store to head office using SpeedLink Enterprise. Use the procedure below to enter a public payment card key.

1.Generate Pretty Good Privacy (PGP) public and private encryption keys by doing one of the following:

Use the free SpeedLine PGP Key Generator Utility, available upon request from SpeedLine Support.

-or-

Use your own key generator utility.

-or-

Use a free online key generator and decryption tool (for example, https://www.igolder.com/PGP/generate-key/).

2.Save both the public and private key as ASCII files (with the .asc filename extension).

3.On the Store Manager Settings tab, click the System group.

4.Click the System Options button, icon_systemOptions and then click the Public Key tab.

5.Click Load from File, browse to the public key location, and click Open.

Best Practice HM

Hint You can also copy the public key to your clipboard, and then right-click in the large window and click Paste.

6.On the Edit menu, click Save Changes. When you swipe a payment card during employee setup, the encrypted card number will be associated with the employee's record.

Note HM

Important If your payroll is administered at head office, both the public and private keys must be sent to your head office database administrator, who can load them into the SpeedLink Admin PGP Key Ring area. The keys are then used to decrypt pay card numbers at head office so employee accounts can be credited with pay.
